Parkway Receives Impact Award from Michigan Works!

26 March 2017

In keeping with our commitment to develop deep ties with and improve our community, Parkway is proud to partner with Michigan Works! and to receive an Impact Award for our part in developing fresh talent in West Michigan.

We are especially pleased to honor Esli Monterroso, our featured employee who has become a Michigan Works! and Parkway Electric success story.

Originally from Guatemala, Mr. Monterroso is one of many individuals who has been recommended to Parkway Electric by West Michigan Works! He was first connected to Michigan Works! in 2014, after being laid off from his job at an automotive company that had closed down. Through coaching, he achieved his GED in one year, participated in an 18-week Construction and Electrician program through Grand Rapids Community College, and quickly was hired at Parkway. As Esli said during his Impact Award acceptance speech on February 22, 2017, his journey took him from a home with no electricity to being a prized member of our electrician team.

In the past 15 months, Parkway has hired many new employees, 5 of whom were hired through the West Michigan Works! On the Job Training program. We know that by committing to creating jobs and cultivating talent, we are bettering the lives of individuals, companies, and the community as a whole.

Mark Bulthuis, Human Resources Director at Parkway, puts it this way: “The training supported by Michigan Works! is transportable, and while Parkway hopes our employees stay with us for decades, the skills learned and supported by Michigan Works! can be used anywhere in the State of Michigan.”

Community involvement is at the center of what we value at Parkway. We know that through strategic partnerships in the community, we not only strengthen our sphere of influence, but we also have the privilege of working with talented and dedicated employees like Esli Monterroso.
